I was sliding more on my feet this time because I knew that there was burns in my bone

and burns all the way down my side

That's one thing, I don't mind if he had like a tree went through his chest, I wouldn't feel a thing

but when you know he's been scraping on the...

There's bits of heather sticking around that need to drop piece by piece

A bit of heather

until I landed in the grassy marsh

Once I landed in the grassy marsh, I didn't give it much time

Then when you landed on the marsh, what was going through your mind?

I would be just ready for death if I knew what I wanted

But you're not alone

Human instinct to survive is strong

You would do anything to survive

It's like people kill their own family, people do anything to survive when they think they're gonna die

But I knew that... I just thought to myself it was because it was cold

and I wanted to get over it again

I don't know how I managed to run, but I ended up running

and I just...

Ah, it's not that bad, he got up on his own

It's not like he was smashed in pieces

I was determined that I was going to get back to the ferry and get to the hospital where my missus was working

but she said I could pay my own down this path

and this woman appears and stops me and says that I really need CDA's attention

That's why you had that don't go hiking alone

Oh yeah

And she gave me her jacket to put on

and she got me into her car

He's crazy

She said she was taking me to the hospital because I just kept bleeding

That's what I want to know

But that's the thing, he's on that island

They're not near the city, he's been on that island

The Isle of Arran it's called

Oh no, it's not very big

So...

There's definitely no hospital out there

The reception just looked as if she'd seen a ghost

I remember it

They asked me to sit down in the reception

and write up my details and I couldn't even feel my hands to write to the pen

And then they hugged me on a bed with this

It was called a bear hugger

So they put a tube inside a cover

and they wrapped it around you

and then they had two or three more covers wrapping around me

Because he was too cold

And that's when they took me for an x-ray

and I noticed that I had a chip bone in my ankle

The doctor told me that she had no idea how I'd survive the fall

So he was running but his ankle was broken

Walking so far

He didn't even know

To get back to her car before even making it in there

It's a building on a shop

Yeah, I know about it

...hypothermia conditions that I was in

I think he's...

Yeah, he's on that island

So I didn't know they had a hospital on that island

It's very small

I don't know

I'd say like half past eleven

So say I was in there

It was a quarter past eleven

A couple of hundred people live there

I thought they'd just have to go to the...

Main court next morning

Main room

In the morning

I'd get informed that I was getting airlifted

I copped her to a car

and I was going to fly over to Couch House Hospital

where then

I had to sit on an ambulance

for two hours

two, three hours

until they let me actually inside the hospital

where I was then treated in

Yeah, they have a hospital

but they can't look after them properly

It's like a small...

I know I've been in them Scottish islands

There's a lot of them where there's nothing

Like one village

Definitely is not

Maybe one doctor if you know what I mean

He's lucky

It's just to get myself right down

and get to be able to do the things I love again

That's a big one

but there are many small islands

with nothing on them

Just the village and the farmers

So Roger and Van was training for Grattan Alley

Yeah

So given that you had all this pain and recovery

What were you thinking?

I just kept thinking if these bombs heal I could still run

and it wasn't until like Saturday

I went back out in the van

I thought he'd trained for us

With the broken ankle

I thought otherwise he would be dead

So less than seven days

No but

You'd fallen off the side of a mountain

Seven days later

Five days later he went running in a mountain in Spain

That's remarkable

Stupid

What has your one big...

He's lying

Nobody saw him fall down the mountain

He just tripped over

Maybe he's the person who stands still

But we didn't sit in there

Yeah

I don't know

He just tripped over

Yeah

His advice was don't do it alone

Because you couldn't

Yeah I know

Because a non-stupid person would go home

I know

I want to go but I'm not going

Because I have nobody to go with

Yeah maybe I want to go

You want to climb a big mountain?

Yeah I'd love to

Yeah I'd love to

I wanted to do it in Tenerife

And they didn't want

We wanted to walk up the volcano

But John didn't want to walk

He said let's drive

Okay next weekend

Huh?

Peak District

Yeah but you're going...

Okay, bye

Peace
