If you get a slightly newer one,

they have bigger battery as well for more range.

Because full, I get maybe 20 miles free.

Because you know, the road time is going up.

So on X5, road time is going up.

It must be crazy, yeah, diesel, yeah.

But I think, do you drive more in the city

or you do a lot of long distance?

Long distance.

So you might still be better at diesel, I don't know.

I was thinking this one is not good for the long journey

because, well I was thinking that

because you're driving two litre petrol in a heavy car,

it doesn't make sense.

But the modern ones, it's turbocharged anyway.

It's turbocharged petrol.

The modern engines is very economical.

Petrol is a lot cheaper than diesel now.

The difference is bigger as well.

Yeah, but the petrol burns quicker than diesel.

Yeah, but still 52.

What would you get in a,

you probably get only the same or even less in an X5 in diesel.

No, in an X5 diesel I get 28.

That's very low.

But that's because you're doing a lot of short trips.

Yeah.

And if you drive a diesel and you do a lot of short trips,

you fuck it up.

Yeah, I know, it's a lot.

So, but this, you know, short trip,

the engine doesn't come on.

There's a, I've run a, I've got 34 miles of petrol left.

But that went down since I was at Derby.

It didn't go off, didn't go down because the engine is off.

Yeah, because of the electric.

Yeah.

I always plug...

How long does the battery last?

It's very...

Is that like 11 miles?

11 miles if I drive only battery now.

Can you drive...

But in reality, it would be more than 20.

Okay.

Without the engine coming on.

Because every time you slow down, it goes up.

Yeah.

And sometimes it's amazing.

You're doing 70, 75 on the motorway and the traffic stops.

You brake sharply and you got two miles free.

Okay.

It just goes up two miles.

Do they have diesel ones as well with battery?

No.

Only petrol with battery?

Only petrol.

But to be honest, if you get in that mileage,

that miles per gallon on there when you're doing,

you're mixing short and long trips.

Now is the time to change for petrol anyway.

I had a bigger car before.

I had five series before.

But the older model.

Diesel one, yeah?

Diesel.

Me too.

Very nice.

I liked it.

Very fast.

Yeah, very fast.

But because I drive long journeys, you know,

I go to Russia with the car.

Well, this is what I thought.

I wouldn't take the...

Maybe that's from the write-off.

He didn't fix it very good, the door.

I did very cheap fix.

You can still see the dent in the door as well,

if you look carefully.

Did you buy a write-off?

No, no.

It was...

I was in an accident.

Oh, and the write-off and you...

The wheel was hit.

And it was bent.

How much did you...

Did they even...

They paid me 15 and a half,

and I paid two and a half to get it back.

That's very good.

Yeah, and then because the wheel was in,

they said the insurance company didn't want to fix it.

It might be the chassis, it might be the axle.

How much?

We lifted it up.

All the impact was taken by one piece.

Even suspension was okay.

Just one bracket that holds the wheel, whatever.

Yeah, the bracket had to come from Germany

and it cost 200 pounds.

And I paid the guy 700 for the body.

A good job would have cost more, but it's fine.

You know, you can't even...

Yeah, but so what, you know?

I made money.

Yeah, of course.

The car's not really worth anything

because it's write-off, maybe a few grand only.

So why spend another thousand for a perfect door?

You know, the last five years...

The last five, eight years of cars,

they changed a lot because, like all European community,

whatever, they've gone off diesel.

They don't want people to get diesel.

They developed the petrols much better.

So they're much more economical on the long journey.

And it feels a bit more quick and nippy.

It's petrol and diesel anyway, you know?

But when it's switching between electric and motor,

it's like diesel takes time to get warm and get the revs, you know?

Because it's petrol.

If you're on the main road, if I go down there fast,

when the engine needs to come on to support it,

because you don't know it's on.

On the motorway, you don't know if your engine's on or not.

I would recommend for anybody, the only thing is that, like I said,

because the battery is on the...

Or maybe it's locked, I don't know.

There's some storage under that, I keep that stuff.

But that's the hybrid battery and it's under the seats at the back.

It's not even that bad because it's long.

But if I need to put something big in it,

I can't fit a Hoover or whatever in it because it's...

Suitcases, we're okay.

You can put two big ones side by side.

That's to access the battery when they need to, like, work on it.

So, the newer ones is much more...

I have no idea what's up.

The newer ones is much more...

Bigger.

Bigger battery.

Hard battery.

Even this shape, but newer model.

They've got more range and economy.

But if I could go to Birmingham and back with 50, whatever, miles per gallon,

I can't imagine the...
