I don't know, sometimes the plastic ones look nicer just when they're old, they get all black.

See the street lights are made out of metal.

But see that pole, it's made out of wood, there's some on that side.

The ones that are holding those wires up, they're made out of wood.

You can see one there, and there's another one there, the wires stick to it.

That's it, they didn't, they just have to shout.

And if they wanted to go to another town, they have to go by horse.

Yeah, there was no fire brigade, they just had to shout all the neighbours fire.

And the neighbours had to come and help them with buckets, it was very hard.

But now that does never happen because things are so different.

The houses are made out of bricks.

They've got lots of safety things.

We've got fire extinguishers.

These aren't made out of wooden bricks.

No, these are made out of stone bricks.

And we've got fire extinguishers and we've got water in our houses from a tap.

They didn't have pipes of water to the house even.

They had to go to the river with a bucket and collect it.

And it wasn't very clean so they'd get poorly along.

Not every day, but they had much more poorly people because people were pooling much more often.

Because they were drinking water from the river, that's the only water they had.

And they washed the clothes in the river.

They used to go down to the river bank to wash the clothes.

Can you imagine?

And we're very lucky nowadays, we've got water in our houses, we've got electricity in our houses.

We've got telephones, we've got everything.

Oh yes.

They didn't wash anything.

They probably washed their hands once a week.

They didn't have baths, they didn't have showers.

They didn't have water in their houses.

Everybody was stinky, definitely.

But they had heating from fires.

So it was always dangerous that the fire might spread to the walls.

Now we just put the radiators on.

We've got gas in our house, we've got water in our house.

Well, they invented the better technology.

That's why things get better.

And we don't even know.

We know that it's not very good making buildings out of wood.

And then somebody said, hey, why don't we make buildings out of stone?

And they said, oh yeah, they're much stronger.

They're warmer.

They don't fall down.

They don't burn.

It's much better.

Well, people in that time, they couldn't even think of that.

They weren't clever enough or they couldn't imagine these new ways of doing things.

When grandma was a little girl, they had a telephone in the house.

They didn't have internet in the house.

They didn't have television in the house.

They couldn't imagine what it would be like to have television in the house.

And now it would be strange not to have a television in the house.

And we live with all this stuff.

Internet, televisions, electricity, water in our houses.

But maybe in the future, people, after hundreds of years from now, they're going to think, oh, how did they live?

They didn't have all this stuff.

They had only internet in the house.

They had only water in the house.

They might have even better things.

We don't know.

What we can't even imagine yet.

It's complicated.
