You were right 😂 I’ve worked it out now. The £10.50 one DOESN’T include Plotters Forest. Their website is bloody confusing. You want the Family Explorer tickets – that includes the castle, Plotters Forest + the new Hidden Forest, deer park and gardens. Don’t buy the £65.80 family one though. Select 2 individual CHILD Family Explorer tickets at £14.88 each, so £29.76, and then you two get the carer tickets when you arrive. The time you select is your 2-hour Plotters Forest slot; you can do the rest during the day.

Their FAQ says: “Carer’s tickets are available with a valid Carer’s ID.” More importantly, it then explains exactly how to book: “Please purchase all tickets needed for your group (excluding the carer), bring along your Carer’s ID with you, and your carer’s ticket will be issued on the day.” So yes: the carer ticket is free — you specifically don’t buy a ticket for the carer online.

* Raby Castle / Plotters’ Forest – This is looking like quite a good shout actually. The kids would be about £10.50 each, and carers go free, so assuming you can both go in as their carers, about £21 total for all four of you. Parking is free too. And they’ve literally just doubled the size of the adventure playground this month. * Belsay Hall, Castle & Gardens – English Heritage let an assisting companion in free with each disabled visitor, so you should only have to pay for the two kids. The exact price varies depending on booking/date, but should be relatively inexpensive. They don’t require the companion to be a registered carer either. * The Sill / Hadrian’s Wall – Free entry, including the Playscape. You’d only be paying for parking – maximum £6 for the day, so basically £6 total. * Druridge Bay Country Park – Free entry. First hour parking is free, £3 up to two hours or £5 for longer, so £5 total if you stay a while. * Plessey Woods Country Park – Free entry again. Same sort of thing with parking, so about £5 total for a longer visit. * Seaton Delaval Hall – National Trust allow an essential companion/carer in free with a disabled visitor, so if you can each accompany one of the kids, you should only pay their admission – about £15 total. * Ormesby Hall – Same National Trust carer arrangement, and it’s cheap anyway. Two child admissions should be about £7 total with you both going in as carers. * Hardwick Park, Sedgefield – Free entry, including the play areas. Full-day parking is £4, so £4 total. So roughly cheapest → most expensive: Hardwick £4 → Druridge/Plessey £5 → The Sill £6 → Ormesby £7 → Seaton Delaval £15 → Raby £21 → Belsay (depends on the child ticket price). Actually that makes Raby quite attractive – about £21 for all four of you, free parking, the newly enlarged adventure playground, gardens/deer etc., and the weather there today looks really good too.
