OCR Text: 20:18 She really, really wants to vap dentist told her not to. Do you can, just a little bit, please? No — even a quick puff isn’t worth the risk. Vaping (like smoking or using a straw) creates suction in the mouth, and that suction can pull the blood clot right out of the socket. That leads to a dry socket, which is genuinely more painful than the extraction itself and can take another week or more to heal. It’s not about the nicotine or the smoke, specifically — it’s the physical act of pulling/ sucking air through pursed lips. That’s why dentists usually say no vaping, smoking, or straws for at least 3–5 days, sometimes up to a week for a fresh extraction. I know that’s a hard “no” to hear when she’s craving it. If it helps, nicotine gum or a patch (check with the dentist/pharmacist on timing) can take the edge off without the suction risk. Otherwise, riding out the next couple of days is really the safer bet here. Reply to Claude Sonnet 5 Medium

OCR Text: • Bacteria: Vape devices and hands can introduce bacteria into the site. "Just a few puffs" — how much risk? There isn't a "safe amount" in the first day. Even a few puffs can create enough suction or irritation to disturb the clot. The risk is highest in the first 24 hours, then drops after 48-72 hours. That's why most dentists/oral surgeons say to wait at least 24-48h, and ideally 3-5 days. I know that's not what she wants to hear. A few things that sometimes help people get through the first day: • Nicotine replacement like patches or nicotine gum without chewing/suction — check with the dentist or pharmacist first, especially with pain meds • Keep hands/mouth busy: water, sugar-free lollipops, soft snacks • Cold pack + rest to distract from the urge The safest move is to stick to what the dentist said and wait until tomorrow. If the urge feels unmanageable, or if she does vape and then gets severe pain, bad taste, or bleeding, she should call the dentist/oral surgeon right away to check the socket.
